Interest of justice

Cases where the court invokes the discretionary equitable power to grant relief (new trial, vacatur, remand) when strict procedural or doctrinal rules would otherwise preclude it, on the ground that justice would not otherwise be served. Often appears with phrases like in the interest of justice, interests of justice require, or manifest injustice.
